*Drum Birthing Workshop 2027*

The Details:

We embark on a Journey that brings the hides of the Winter Hunt back to Life... Drums with powerful voices and Good Medicine. We will gather on the morning of "Good" Friday, March 26 @ 9:00 am. We will process these raw hides into Drums through the Easter Weekend. The Spring Theme?? RE-Birth. We gather in Circle for introductions, Opening Prayer & Song. You may choose to opt out of the Smudging Ceremony; however we do ask that all participants sit in Circle with us & simply pass. I begin by brushing participants off with the Eagle Wing Fan, and creating a Sacred Space for us to do this Good Work. All of our Ancestors made Drums…we will be joined by our Ancestors. I haven’t heard of a culture without Drums. Drum Teachings will be woven into your experience throughout the weekend. Many Indigenous Teachings will be shared. The cleaning of your Animal Brothers & Sisters is messy, hard work. It is also worth every thumb cramp, or splash of yuck. It is also Grounding and Healing work. This work is Medicine. We will end each day in Circle as well. To check in, see what needs are calling to be met, and to stay connected to each other and the Spirits of our Drums. I have not seen any other Drum Workshop like this one. This is a rare opportunity to learn, to step into an Ancient Art. From the very beginning...all the way through. These Drums will not be mechanically processed on any level. YOU will be the one who births your Drum. We provide all the tools & instruction to do this work. Some suggestions? If you have done work like this before and have favorite tools? Bring them. Bring clothes and shoes that are okay to get wet and mucky. Some folks like rubber gloves, some prefer the sensation of bare hands on the hides. We provide, but if you have favorite gloves... We tend & clean the hides by hand. We are also tending to the Spirits of our Drums. We tend through Friday, until approx. 6 pm. Earlier if we are moving quickly. And we tend again on Saturday. Once our hides are cleaned... We cut the rounds & lace that bring our Drums together. If you see color in the essence of your Drum?? This will be the time for dye. On Sunday we bring our Drums out into the world, we lace them on Cedar Rings… I call this the Birthing Time. The beautiful natural hues and if you have chosen to dye the skin?? The dynamic colors. The excitement is palpable. The Drums are always amazing.
